Type 2 Diabetes is a health condition which means there is too much sugar circulating in your bloodstream. Part of the diagnosis typically involves something called an HbA1c test.
If it's not something your doctor has ordered for you, you can either ask them if you're at risk or order an at-home HbA1c blood test.
If you don’t have any contraindications, the following values are used to categorise your result:
Optimal range: 4.5 to 5.4% or 26 to 36 mmol/mol
Normal range: Under 6% or 42 mmol/mol
Pre-diabetes: 6.0 to 6.4% or 42 to 47 mmol/mol
Diabetes: 6.5%+ or 48+ mmol/mol
Type 2 diabetes can have serious health consequences and it’s very common, so it’s absolutely worth getting yourself checked if you believe you're at higher risk.
