Premier Daniel Andrews says the Victorian government is committed to acting on and investing in the recommendations handed down in the final report from the Royal Commission into the state’s mental health system.
The report – which was revealed yesterday – called for a radical overhaul of the system which it found had catastrophically failed.
“The report that was handed down yesterday and all the recommendations within it, as well as the nine recommendations from the very first report, is a call to action, to save lives, to build a much better to system, to actually build a system that works,” Mr Andrews said.
“We will tick off each and every one of the recommendations, the 65 of them that came to us yesterday, in a methodical way, this investment is critical, its time has come.
“This momentum is undeniable”.
Deputy Premier James Merlino also detailed the investments the state government would be making.
He announced six priorities areas had been identified by the department where there was most need for mental health supports, including Frankston, Benalla and Whittlesea.
