First Lady Jeannette Kagame joined the Organisation of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) High-Level Meeting in the margins of the 71st UN General Assembly, on 21 September in New York (USA).
First Lady Jeannette Kagame joined fellow First Ladies from the continent and Japan, to discuss the crucial question of "Improving the sexual and reproductive health of adolescent girls: The role of First Ladies".
This high-level meeting brought together First Ladies from the continent – namely, Ghana, Malawi, Chad, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone; along with the First Lady of Japan Mrs. Akie Abe; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Hon. Dr. Tedros Adhanom; the Executive Director of UNAIDS, Mr. Michel Sidibé; the Director General of Unesco, Ms. Irina Bokova; UNFPA Deputy Executive Director, Dr. Natalia Kanem; the Director General of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Mr. Tewodros Melesse; along with government officials of the countries represented; executives of OAFLA’s partner organisations such as Alere Inc., the China Africa Business Council; and technical advisors working with First Ladies.
The President of Namibia, Mr. Hage Geingos, was also in attendance, in support of OAFLA initiatives.
