I have kept up a sketchbook practice for about a decade now- sketchbooks are my jam and I wanted to share how I approach keeping them. Also, I wanted to discuss, now I have been doing it for so long, how I keep up my passion for them and stop them feeling stale or boring. This video is for beginners and those who may find themselves a little stuck with where to go next. Maybe a bit tired of doing the same thing, or even put off from starting by seeing too many pristine sketchbooks online. I share with you the sketchbooks I made when I first got back into artl, hopefully, they are reassuring in their being all over the place and rough and ready. I also show some books I own that help to inspire me. I also show some recent pages from ongoing sketchbooks.
I discuss the ways I have kept sketchbooks low pressure, and then how they have grown to be more challenging as I felt more confident artistically. This is a chatty video - so make some art in your sketchbook while I share the ways I have found to make sketchbooks my go-to place to relax, have fun and follow my curiosity.
I see myself as a beginner with regards to YouTube - so I did in editing notice I should have turned auto focus off on my phone - but hey, I am practising what I preach - it is better to have a go and create consistently than aim for perfection, so I am leaving this video as it is- I hope seeing the mixture of my sketchbooks, old and new might help inspire you in your art practice, I know I love to take a peek into other artists journals. They always motivate me to get going.
Thanks for watching -
Sonia
