Eva Guinan, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Associate Direction, Center for Clinical and Translational Research at Harvard Medical School, was featured during the September 7, 2011 Innovation Lecture Series. She presented 'Opening Up Academic Biomedical Research: Experiments in Genomics and Type 1 Diabetes.' Dr. Guinan stated that academia has followed a relatively stereotyped process for identifying and attempting to resolve research questions and current questions often require multi-disciplinary skills potentially less well served by this model. Her presentation offered information on the application of alternative approaches to hypothesis generation, evaluation of innovative solutions and attracting new solvers to difficult problems.
