LIVE STREAM - Learn about what gear I used while backpacking for 8 days through the vast trail-less wilderness of USA's 2nd largest national park! I just got back and have not unpacked my pack yet - you will see me do that and learn exactly what I brought as I talk about what worked well and what did not.
Gates of the Arctic was my "dream trip" for many years - and to finally go there with Andrew Skurka was icing on the cake! I consider myself a pretty experienced backpacker - but compared to Andrew I am rookie... lol. I learned a lot while on the trip about identifying different walkable terrain in the arctic circle which is filled with tussocks and wet spongy tundra. We also learned how to read USGS topo maps properly and navigate with a compass - something I had never done before. We also got tips for using CalTopo which I did not know before. And we learned how to cross difficult river crossings safely and identify the best places to do so. And more! This was my first time going on a guided trip and it could not have worked out better. Highly recommend Andrew Skurka Adventures! I definitely feel like a could now go out into Gates of the Arctic on a solo trip or lead a trip with my brothers/family/friends. There are zero trails. And my feet were wet the entire time from the moment we set foot off the bush plane! Still, GOTA is an incredible place. I miss it already and would love to go back again some day!
Drop any questions you have about my gear, clothing, food, the park itself or anything at all down in the comments! Thanks for watching!!
