Se tu m’ami was one of the first classical pieces I learned and sang. With words written by Paolo Antonio Rolli and music by Alessandro Parisotti, this piece was formerly attributed to Pergolesi, another well-accomplished Italian composer.
I had much fun writing the characterization for the piece back in 2016. Here’s an excerpt:
“Mi chiamo Silvia e sono Italiana. (…) Everybody in my neighborhood knows me. I am famous for my beauty and charm. Love letters, serenades, and pick-up lines are what I do not lack in this life, no matter where I go. I have had enough lovers to populate an island. My favorite hobby is taking care of the flowers in this garden near my house. That is where I have met most of my lovers.”
As you can see, Silvia is an unapologetic heartbreaker. I hope you enjoy this fun little piece - “If you love me, if you sigh.”
