This video was taken on April 18th at 7:14pm from a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan from St. Joseph, Michigan, looking Westerly toward Chicago. These images are known as a "Superior Mirage" caused by a large, well defined area of warm air over a layer of colder air that distorts light rays. Andrew Young, an astronomer at San Diego State University said "A thermal inversion forms over the lake, bending the line of sight from the camera to Chicago back down and producing the inverted image, which is typical of mirages". This mirage lasted for perhaps 20 minutes, and it was an eerie sight to behold as I've never seen anything like this in my life having lived here over 30 years.
