So, how can you effectively train your hamstrings? My advice would be to start out really simple.
One of the best pieces of training I ever got was from Dr Mike Israetel who says that the best way to know if you’re stimulating a muscle on accessory lifts, is whether or not you feel the muscle when you’re training, aka: mind-muscle connection.
The best mind-muscle connection I’ve ever felt with my hamstrings is on the seated leg curl. Jump onto the seated leg curl, make it pretty light so you can get between 20 and 25 reps, and very slowly ease out the reps. This should create a crazy pump in your hamstrings. After 3 sets I can barely walk.
After a few months of progressively overloading your hamstrings this way, you can move on to more technical lifts like lying leg curls, Romanian deadlifts, nordic hamstring curls, and back extensions.
