From Procedural rhetoric, to the aesthetics of play, and theories of dynamic emergent meaning, we are still debating how games fundamentally convey ideas, themes and emotions, and in this video, we survey the history of different theories of meaning for games, and how play expresses itself differently based on the game, the context and the culture it exists in.
