A pair of Beluga whales who spent a decade performing for crowds in a Chinese aquarium will soon be released into open waters after spending time in a rehabilitation program in Iceland.
Moving the pair around the world from China to Iceland took years of planning, as carers were worried the whales would not be able to cope if they were immediately released into the wild.
Instead, they were gradually introduced to open waters in an effort to acclimatise them to a more natural habitat.
