Father of modern medicine
Ibn Sina's name is known as the Father of Modern Medicine. In the Western world, he is better known as Avicenna. Born with the name Abu Ali al-Huseyn bin Abdullah bin Hassan Ali bin Sina. Born in 980 AD in a village called Afsyanah, Uzbekistan. He was also a prolific philosopher, scientist and writer of the 10th century. Most of his works are about philosophy and medicine. One of his works, Qanun fi Thib or The Canon of Medicine, has been a reference in medicine for centuries. Avicenna created the concept of 40 days of patient isolation. In Arabic, this method is called Al-Arba'iniya which means 40 days. Apart from the medical field, Ibn Sina also received recognition in the field of philosophy. He received the title ash-Shaykh ar-Rais or Teacher of the Kings. Ibn Sina started writing when he was 21 years old. His first work is Al-Majmu which contains a complete scientific study. In the field of philosophy, his most famous works are As-Shifa, An-Najat, and Al-Isign. Not only that, he also wrote a number of poems, verses and short essays called Maqallah.
