American baritone Brian Mulligan made his San Francisco Opera debut as Marcello (La Bohème) in 2008 and has since returned as Valentin (Faust), Albert (Werther), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Ragueneau (Cyrano de Bergerac), the title role of Nixon in China, and the King’s Herald (Lohengrin). Recent notable engagements include Valentin at the Metropolitan Opera; Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Washington National Opera; the title role of Adams’s The Death of Klinghoffer with Opera Theater of St. Louis; Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Sharpless with English National Opera; Prometheus (Die Vögel) and Melot (Tristan und Isolde) at Los Angeles Opera; Marcello at Houston Grand Opera and at New York City Opera; Zurga (Les Pêcheurs de Perles) at Opera Colorado; Ford (Falstaff) at the Saito Kinen Festival in Japan; and the title role of Der Kaiser von Atlantis with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Houston Grand Opera, and at the Ravinia Festival. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Mulligan is the winner of a Richard Tucker Career Grant and the George London Prize, and he was the first place winner of the International Belvedere Vocal Competition in Vienna.
