A brief overview of the occipitalis muscles including anatomy, biomechanics, trigger point formation and location.
The occipitalis muscles sit at the base of the skull and work together with the frontalis in an attempt to counterbalance stress and strain (ex. forehead action such as frowning). Trigger points in these muscles are common, related to tension headache, and are usually quite straightforward to treat.
