John Stockton gives LA some of its own medicine and pushes the hell out of the ball from the starting minutes. On the other side of the court, he forces deflections and make steals much to the fondness of Chick Hearn who compliments his performance throughout the game. But even a repeat of Magic's playoffs record in assists wasn't enough to win the all-important game 5 of this series. Stockton even manages to get two steals in the last 1:30 of the game and turn them into implemented fast breaks, however, it seems like Utah didn't have enough firepower, having only 6 players ready for NBA playoffs basketball on their team, to be on top against the Lakers, who can afford having guys like Mychal Thompson just coming off the bench and doing miracles, after 48 minutes of basketball. I do agree with Chick though. This was the best I have ever seen John Stockton play. May 17, 1988.
