Wheel bearings are very high on Kent's neglected maintenance list. He shows a good example of what a bad bearing sounds like on a W123 300D with approximately 180,000 miles. Failed wheel bearings can leave you stranded. They should be check and/or regressed every 40,000 to 60,000 miles depending on your driving habits. If you do a lot of high speed freeway driving they should be checked earlier than later. This applies to all Mercedes Benz with front wheel bearings!
