If you are growing any kind of one-person business, it’s essential to keep your expenses down to an absolute minimum, especially when you’re just starting out.

Unfortunately, some expenses are simply unavoidable. For example, you need to secure a domain name for your website (e.g. timpeakman.com), subscribe to a hosting service (your website needs to live somewhere) and get a business email address (to send emails to your subscribers and clients).

However, I increasingly see people purchasing additional domain names and email addresses they simply don’t need and will not use.
