A protein-rich dal which is super comforting and delicious. You can pair it with steamed rice, phulkas or paranthas, it tastes amazing!
MASOOR DAL
Ingredients
½ cup split skinless red lentil (masoor dal)
Salt to taste
¼ tsp turmeric powder
Tempering
3 tbsps mustard oil
2 dried red chillies
1 bay 1eaf
2 green chillies
½ tsp onion seeds (kalonji)
Salt to taste
1 tbsp chopped fresh coriander leaves + for garnish
Method
1. Heat a non-stick deep pan, add soaked split skinless red lentil, salt, turmeric powder and 4 cups hot water, mix and let the mixture come to a boil. Scum occasionally and continue to cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes or till the lentil is cooked completely.
2. Mash the lentil mixture with a wooden churner. Take the pan off the heat.
3. For the tempering, heat mustard oil in a kadai, let it smoke. Add dried red chillies, bay leaf, green chillies and onion seeds and sauté for a few seconds.
4. Add cooked lentil mixture, mix, adjust salt, mix and let the mixture come to a boil. Add coriander leaves, mix, cover and take kadai off the heat.
5. Transfer the masoor dal into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
