How a drum major should tie and wear a plaid is explained by D/M Alistair Pether. Drum Major Pether is the drum major for the RAF (Royal Air Force) Halton Pipes and Drums. He is a graduate of the British army's Edinburgh Castle drum major's course, and has performed in the Edinburgh Tattoo, held in Scotland, several times. D/M Pether has also competed in Scottish drum major contests through out the U.K, and has placed at the Drum Major World Championships several times.
