Penalties killed Iowa all day and it was never able to get over the hump. After cutting the deficit to 22-14 on a 11-yard pass from Ryan Driscoll to Scott Slutzker, Iowa recovered the ensuing kickoff on Michigan's 29-yard line.
But two illegal procedure penalties and a blocked 40-yard FG attempt by Brion Hurley ended the comeback. Michigan drove down and added another touchdown after consuming six minutes off the clock.
The Iowa defense couldn't stop Tyrone Wheatley, as he rushed for 182 yards on 37 carries and two touchdowns.
