Former ADF Chief, RAAF Chief, and serviceman, ACM Sir Angus Houston has spoken to Sky News host Peta Credlin about his experiences during his military career as well as sharing his views on Australia's future strategic challenges.
"In my time and before that, there were periods where we lost a lot of pilots to the airlines. Of course, right now, the aviation industry is in a lot of trouble due to COVID-19... it's meant we haven't had a problem with recruitment or retention," he said.
The Royal Australian Air Force was established 100 years ago today. Since then, more than 35,000 Australians have served in the RAAF and 11,191 have sadly sacrificed their lives in defence of our freedom.
During World War II, Australians fought with the Luftwaffe over Europe and the North Atlantic, the Italians and the Vichy-French in the Middle East, and of course, the Japanese across the Asia-Pacific.
Since then, the Australian RAAF servicemen and women have been deployed to Korea, Malaya, Vietnam, and more recently, the Middle-East as part of coalition forces fighting Islamic State.
