The average gynecomastia surgery procedure involves gyno removal from Zones 1 and 2. According to Dr. Caridi’s Gynecomastia Zone Classification System, which is published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, this is gynecomastia tissue which is located in the area immediately behind the nipple areola complex and the anterior chest area. Watch as Dr. C frees this patient from the burden of gyno in a complicated gynecomastia case that includes four zones!
Unlike most other Austin Gynecomastia Center videos, this video focuses on showing everything but the procedure itself to highlight all the other facets of gynecomastia surgery, from planning to recovery. The most important decision that had to be made prior to this patient’s gyno removal surgery was whether skin removal would be necessary, as the gyno tissue was in four zones. If Dr. C thinks that the patient’s skin is elastic enough to rebound properly, skin removal will not be performed due to the permanent scars around the areola and across the chest it produces. In this case, Dr. C determined that the patient’s skin elasticity was of good enough quality to not warrant skin removal and avoid unnecessary scarring to the patient.

The next day after the patient’s gynecomastia surgery for massive gyno tissue removal of four zones, we see as our nurse Lacy removes his compression garment and dressings for the first time. While he keeps his body stiff due to the discomfort from the recent procedure, his reaction to seeing his chest for the first time after surgery is indescribable. Those who haven’t experienced this can only imagine what it is like to see yourself without female breasts, the chest you always assumed you were supposed to have, after all of the mental anguish and lack of self-esteem it has caused you for so many years.
This is a big deal! Now the patient can finally experience the true life he deserves. This is about wearing clothing that fits and compliments his appearance…it is about not dreading to look in the mirror and loving the reflection. He can begin working on no longer having social anxiety and body insecurity. As always, Dr. C would like to thank all his patients for allowing him to be instrumental in their journey to freedom from gynecomastia. It doesn’t get better than this – this is living life like it should be!

One of the most important concepts to take away from this patient’s gynecomastia surgery is that gyno surgery results are immediate and not something that you typically need to wait several months for the “swelling to go away,” as many patients have told me they were told by others. The very next day this patient was able to see his results and there was no question that he was gyno free. In the cases where patients do not see immediate results and are told that they just need to wait for the swelling to subside, the gynecomastia tissue was not properly (completely) removed. As the swelling subsides, the results may improve, but in the best case, it is not nearly what the patient was expecting from the gyno surgery results they were promised. In some cases, the results may even be worse than before surgery.
Be careful when choosing your gynecomastia removal surgeon, as there are many who promise that they know what they’re doing to only then discover after paying for gynecomastia surgery that they really don’t know how to properly treat gyno. No one should have to experience this, but unfortunately, Dr. C is approached by several patients who previously had gyno surgery that did not properly treat their condition and needed a secondary gynecomastia surgery procedure. Do your research and ask questions!
