US President Donald Trump says "the cure cannot be worse than the problem itself" in reference to the nation's COVID-19 pandemic response.
"I want to open schools. The transmission rate to teachers is very small but I want to open the schools and we have to open our country. This is a massive country with a massive economy," he said.
"People are losing their jobs, they are committing suicide, there is depression, alcohol, drugs, at a level that nobody has ever seen before. There is abuse, tremendous abuse. We have to open our country.
"The cure cannot be worse than the problem itself and that is what is happening. And he (Joe Biden) wants to close it down."
Democratic candidate Joe Biden responded by saying "you have to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time."
"We have to be able to safely open. We need resources to open. You need to be able to, for example, if you're going to open a business, have social distancing within the business. You need to have, if you have a restaurant, plexiglass dividers so people cannot infect one another," he said.
President Trump said plexiglass was unbelievable expensive, especially for businesses that were dying as a result of state-mandated lockdowns.
