Two scientists have won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discoveries enabling the development of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.
The findings by Katalin Kariko from Hungary and Drew Weissman from the United States reportedly led to the approval of two successful mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines in late 2020.
The prize is one of the most prestigious in the scientific world.
It was selected by the Nobel Assembly of Sweden’s Karolinska Institute medical university.
