South Australian Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas says he thinks Australians are sick of hearing government promising to reduce the cost of living when it “never happens”.
“Premier doesn’t control the petrol price; If I become Premier, I’m not going to control the petrol price and an app telling us what the price up the road is, isn’t going to change what Vladimir Putin is doing in Russia,” Mr Malinauskas said at the Sky News / The Advertiser People's Forum on Wednesday.
“So, let's just be honest about it, governments and politicians don’t control groceries or fuel prices.”
He said the way to address the cost of living is to improve people’s incomes, not "empty hollow promises".
