Pegasus Bridge and Horsa gliders landing site, Normandy, France.
In the early morning hours of D-Day June 6, 1944, a small detachment of British airborne troops commanded by Major John Howard stormed the German defense forces.
The object of this action was to prevent German armour from crossing the bridge and attacking the eastern flank of the landings at Sword Beach.
Pegasus Bridge was the first engagement of D-Day.
