Sanding and polishing the gloss coat of a retro single fin surfboard. I used the variable speed sander with 320 grit, then wet sanded by hand with 400, 600, 800 and 1,000 grit sandpaper. You could go up to 1,200 or 1,500 grits. I applied rubbing compounding and buffed it with a microfiber cloth. I then applied polishing compound and buffed it with the variable speed polisher. This process worked, but ideally I would have buffed the rubbing compound with the variable speed polisher and wool bonnet and then used a foam polishing pad (I currently didn’t have one in my shaping bay) with the variable speed polisher for the polishing compound. Surfboard dimensions are 6' x 20.5 x 2.5. I've only glassed a handful of boards and am not an expert but this glassing process works for me.
