this is a video showing you how to make the platter on your turntable shiny again, although I did this to a Technics turntable you could probably do this to just about any turntable that has a die-cast platter, just be careful if it has a ferrite on the bottom, dont let it get chipped or cracked.

If you want a really good shine and you want to use the polish still do use the toothpaste first that will get any surface grime off the metal and make the polish more effective.
If you dont get the desired result from the polish the first time round try repeating that step a couple of times the polish may work better the second time round.
Remember when polishing tackle a small area at a time.
