We all probably could have guessed this one was coming, but that doesn’t take away from it. The all new Envision Pearl is the first offering from Ebonite to include the HK22 pearl additive recently introduced into the brands of Brunswick. This piece is powered inside by the moderately asymmetrical Envision core, wrapped by the update GSV-X Pearl cover finished to a 3000 grit out of the box.
The 4.5 x 5.5 x 4.5 2LS layout has become somewhat of a go-to option for asyms for me as it seems to let the natural characteristics of the ball shine, so rather than trying to make this piece something specific to my liking, we decided to let the ball speak for itself, and show us what its got.
And on the lanes, I was wonderfully unsurprised. This is the most surface on any ball released with the HK22 additive to this point, so seeing more midlane friction was to be expected. The question however was what happens when I move inside. Will the surface cause it to be too slow off the spot and get me into over/under territory?
The simple answer is absolutely not. This Envision Pearl found its sweet spot for me right around fourth arrow and on this house condition, gave me more miss room than I deserved. The shots that I focused on really getting it down the lane looked amazing going through the pins, and even the shots that I rolled a little sooner splashed the rack very well. The slight asymmetry balances continuation off the spot with getting the ball into its roll phase without completely rolling out, a combination of variables I think many will appreciate.
The only downside to this envision pearl was the fact that the higher friction zone to the outside part of the lane was basically unusable. Anytime I got the ball too far right, no matter where it was at the arrows, it seemed to overhook and frequently split. That’s what you get with a shape like this though as it is a high risk, high reward kind of play.
So with that, here’s my recommendations on types of bowlers that I think would match up well with this piece. The first is speed dominant bowlers. It’s hard to find a pearl option that you can trust to get up and go when you’re speed dominant, but the extra surface added to the impressive responsiveness of the HK22 additive gives you a good chance to stay in your comfort zone when changing balls. The second rev dominant bowlers. Yes, this is the mirror opposite of the previous recommendation, but if you want to just get in and wheel it, this combination of control and carry from the inside part of the lane is hard to beat.
The all new Envision from Ebonite is going to compete for best looking ball of this season and when you see its performance on the lanes, it’ll be hard not to envision yourself at the top of the leaderboard.
