Chelsea set to renew interest in signing of£50m-rated EPL midfielder in January
Anthony Gordon wants to depart from Everton and join their Premier League rivals Chelsea in a huge transfer boost to Thomas Tuchel, according to the reprots.
The Blues are preparing a second bid for Everton star Gordon and are willing to offer £50m for his signature.
Frank Lampard’s side value Gordon at more than £50m and are keen to keep hold of him this campaign, having already turned down the first approach from the Blues.
However, The Telegraph are reporting that Gordon is keen to leave Goodison Park for Stamford Bridge – which may force Everton to accept Chelsea’s £50m offer – while Blues are also willing to offer extra bonuses and incentives.
Gordon became a regular in the Toffees team last term and has played 60 games in total across all competitions, founding back of the net just four goals.
He has started both of Everton’s games so far this campaign, failing to score in the two loss, however, now wants to test himself in the Champions League with Chelsea.
Gordon has attracted interest from across the English top-tier this summer – with the Spurs attempting to prise him away from Goodison Park in a package deal to secure the services of Richarlison in July – however, Lampard’s side were unwilling to do business.
Newcastle United have since registered an interest but were put off by the Meresyside Blues stance after the team turned down an approach worth around £30m.
The Blues are now in the lead in the race to secure the services of the Englishman despite Lampard being reluctant to allow another attacking player to depart.
The Merseyside Blues have already lost one of their best forwards this summer, with the Spurs signing Richarlison, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been out injured so far this term.
This has left Gordon leading the line, when he is generally has been seen as a forward in his young career thus far.
Nedum Onuoha has questioned the Blues approach for Gordon and does not feel the transfer makes sense.
‘He’s a big prospect but it’s £50m for a prospect,’ Onuoha told ESPN FC. ‘At the moment, I couldn’t put him into this Chelsea team and see where he fits.
‘I’m looking at Hakim Ziyech, I’m looking at Christian Pulisic; they are technically really good players but they do not really take people on, and that’s one of Anthony Gordon’s huge strengths.
‘He doesn’t fit in with this current style of play. [Callum Hudson-Odoi] is like another version of Anthony Gordon, and he can’t get into the team.’
