In a 1977 game between the Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills, with the Falcons trailing 3-0 late in the fourth quarter, instead of playing for the tie, Falcons head coach Leeman Bennett decided to go for it on fourth down, and called a play that failed and was panned by everyone after the game, including Bennett himself. However, when you break down the call, it might not be as bad as you think, nor might it be as bad as Leeman Bennett thought it was. This is a defense of that play.
