Iron deficiency is THE most common nutrient deficiency worldwide. Estimates say that anywhere from 9-16% of women experience iron deficiency *with* anemia. If you also include those who have iron deficiency *without* anemia (also known as low ferritin or hypoferritinemia), that figure grows by quite a bit. Low ferritin is an under-recognized health problem that is just as catastrophic health-wise, as being full-blown anemic.
This video goes through the common and less common symptoms of iron deficiency without anemia. For the ones that I have, I explain those in more detail so people know what to look for.
This video is part of a series to give a high level education on low ferritin to both patients and providers alike. By educating people and raising awareness through this platform, I hope that there will be increased and more widespread testing to avoid unnecessary suffering.
