The irrepressible Phiona Mutesi is one the players felling pieces at the Rwabushenyi Open's chessboards.The teenager's journey from an unknown quantity in the shantytown of Katwe to a hotshot who sat on Oprah's couch and played against Garry Kasparov is nothing short of extraordinary.
Mutesi played on board 2 for Uganda in her first Olympiad back in 2010. Two years later, she featured in yet another Olympiad where her exceptional performances saw her earn the status of a Woman Candidate Master. The youngster has been speaking to us about how chess has changed her livelihood.
