This Summer Lindsay Moore ’22, Caroline Pearson ’23, Aja Washington ’24, Rithanya Saravanan ’24, and Marissa Marczak ’25 are working together to study the effect malnutrition has on vaccines as fellows in the SURF (Schapiro Undergraduate Research Fellowship) program. These five women, a mixture of biology and neuroscience majors, are one of 28 groups from a diverse range of majors, minors, and fields conducting ten weeks of full-time, original research this summer, under the guidance of faculty mentors. Dr. Melanie Gubbels Bupp, the group’s mentor, has been performing research on this topic for the past 13 years, involving over 20 groups of students from the SURF program.
