A good warm up before any workout is very important. If you don't warm up properly the chance of injury is much higher than after a good warm up. Enough of that...
This exercise will improve mobility in the entire shoulder region.
Why is this important?
Mobility in your shoulders decreases the chance of injury substantially. If your shoulder(blade) doesn't move like it should, there are going to be shoulder issues along the way. So do mobility exercises to prevent that.
Do this exercise as part of your warm up, 10 reps for 2 sets should be a good starter.
If you cannot put your wrist AND your elbows to the wall behind you, your mobility is not what it should be.
It doesn't matter, you know now, so you can take action. If you cannot touch both, just do as much as you can and in time you will improve.
Keep on going until you can do the correct movement in a full range of motion (ROM).
Eventually you want to keep your lower back to the wall also (you can see it's a point of improvement for me too).
When you are able to do that, you will definitely feel the difference (in a very good way :-)) when doing pulling exercises...
Good luck and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask :-)
