There are only two coastal routes accessible by bicycle between San Onofre and Oceanside, CA. One route is on the shoulder of Interstate 5 between Las Pulgas Road and Harbor Drive (see below for video link). The other route is through Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, which I personally consider to be the safer alternative.
This video shows the southbound route starting on Las Pulgas Road, through the Las Pulgas Gate, right turn on Stuart Mesa Road, then another right turn on Vandegrift Boulevard, and exiting through the main gate. It is a popular route used by cyclists riding between LA/Orange County and San Diego. According to Strava segments, this sector is 8.7 miles long with an average grade of -0.1% but elevation gain of 325 feet.

Cyclists transiting Camp Pendleton must obtain a DBIDS Recreational Bicycle Pass BEFORE riding through the base. The pass must be obtained in person from the Visitor Center located near the main gate. The bike pass is valid for one year. For additional information, please see [ Ссылка ]
