One of the most noticeable design elements of the S Boss surfboard is its bullet nose outline. Kelly was aiming to get rid of excess swing weight and create a shorter, more responsive board that would fit tightly in the pocket of the wave. The bullet nose allows for a parallel shortboard outline while chopping off the last 2-3 inches of the nose.
Additionally, Kelly wanted the S Boss surfboard to have a very narrowed outline through the tail, which helps generate speed and drive from the board itself rather than just from the bottom contour. This clean outline was a key part of the initial design.
The rounded pin tail is very close to Firewire's classic FRK round tail, a tried and true performance tail that Kelly was determined about incorporating.
