This is such a pretty and interesting part of the South West Coast Path, also part of the Jurassic coast in Dorset. A relatively short walk for us at around 5.5 miles but there is so much to see, a great one if you are short on time but big on adventure!
We started at a free carpark...of course.... in a small carpark at the top end of Acton village (BH19 3JY) from here we walked down, through the village and followed the lovely Priest's Way Path towards Keates Quarries to look at the National Trust's Spyway Dinosaur Footprints. We found the preservation of the 140 million year old sauropod's footprints to be so fascinating, you could see the family group via the different sized prints, amazing.
From here we walked South, through the fields towards Seacombe Cliff and the English Channel. We kept heading East along the Jurassic Coast, stopping off to check out the quarried caves before reaching the stunning, and very popular, Dancing Ledge. The quarried ledge is used for many leisure activities such as tombstoning, rock climbing and fishing, but even better than that, a swimming pool has been blasted into the limestone, every high tide it gets refreshed with sea water, pretty awesome!
After spending some time enjoying the watching the tide roll in, we headed up hill to Spyway Barn, a smugglers hideout, before rejoining the Priest's Way Path and getting back to the car. A really cracking time spent on the coast.
Thank you for being here, all the best, Ceri & Kat!
