In this second installment on our series covering the different finishes offered here at Nighthawk Custom, we are taking a look at our nitride finishes.
The nitride finish we off is more of metal treatment. It is referred to as a ferritic nitro carburizing, or a QPQ (Quench Polish Quench) style finish. It adds an extreme amount of durability to the weapon. It actually surface hardens the material. It is extremely scratch resistant. It resists hard use and holster wear.
One of the other benefits is that it doesn't add much thickness to the surface of the metal. This allows us to get a very tight fit.
We also offer a Smoked Nitride finish. The finish starts out as a black nitride before we do an oil-rubbed, hand-distressed, antiquing process to the finish. This makes the finish look like a dark, gun metal gray.
With both of the black nitride and smoked nitride finishes, the biggest advantages are corrosion resistance, scratch resistance, and they are easily cleaned. These are excellent finishes for your firearm.
If you have any further questions about our nitride finishes, feel free to contact us or leave a comment below. Be sure to stay tuned for our next video that will cover the basics of our DLC finish.
