If you have a straight staircase and are in need of a stairlift, the Handicare 1100 may be the one for you. This is an excellent model that we have in stock, ready to go and can be installed in just a few hours. It boasts the narrowest rail of any straight stairlift as well as many other great features. We’re here to show you them all, so let’s go.
Why Choose the 1100?
The 1100 is well built and very easy to use. The chair and footrest folds to let other stair users pass, or leave it unfolded, ready to use. If you can’t bend down to raise the footrest up yourself, a powered option can do this automatically with just the touch of a button.
To use the lift just sit in the seat, fasten the seatbelt and press the arm control in the direction of travel with constant pressure. The paddle style joystick control is ergonomically designed and suitable for all users, even those with limited dexterity. When the lift reaches the end of the rail it will stop automatically.
The chair swivels around at the top for you to get off. The standard manual swivel seat has a release lever at the side of the chair, similar to an office chair that you would swivel yourself. Alternatively, you could upgrade to a Powered Swivel which automatically swivels at the top of the stairs. The footrest stays level with the top step. When the chair is swivelled this acts as a barrier to the open stairs.
To come downstairs, swivel the chair back and press the arm control in the down direction.
The chair upholstery is available in a neutral, cream, wipe-clean vinyl.
The remote Call/Send controls can be used if two people in the house need to use the lift or to send the lift to another park position when not in use.
All stairlifts are battery-powered, so work in a power cut. Unlike other stairlifts, the batteries here are charged by a continuous charge strip that goes across the whole length of the rail, meaning you don’t need to worry about where it’s parked. The batteries charge up via a charger unit taking power from a mains socket. There is an audible alarm that will sound if the power is off.
If you have a doorway or open hallway right at the bottom of the stairs where the rail would impede access, the 1100 has a unique slide track rail. To avoid a tripping hazard, the whole rail will move up the stairs as you go up to leave the downstairs doorway or hallway free.
Are stairlifts safe?
Absolutely, all stairlifts have inbuilt safety features as standard.
The 1100 comes with a very easy to use seatbelt that should be fastened when in travel.
There are safety edges around the footplate and carriage, meaning if you meet an obstruction on the stairs it will stop automatically to prevent trapping hazards.
The controls work using constant pressure, so you can stop the lift any time by releasing the controls.
The 1100 runs on friction drive, not a rack and pinion. That means there’s no teeth on the rail making it is easier to keep clean.
Safety standards recommend your model be serviced and safety checked once a year, we offer this as part of our aftercare service to you.
All models have a safe weight limit. This model will hold a person up to 140kg, that’s around 22 stone.
The 1100 is one of our most popular models. It’s very user friendly and comfortable, with several options to personalise the lift to your exact needs. And even better, it can be installed in just a few hours; we have them in stock today, ready for installation.
