What is the difference between the PRESENT SIMPLE and the PRESENT CONTINUOUS?
Watch this English Grammar tutorial and learn when to use the present simple and when to use the present continuous. When do we say the cat sleeps and when do we say the cat is sleeping?
By the end of this video, you will know when to use the present simple and when to use the present continuous in English.
First, the present simple is used for general facts.
For example, ice melts at 0°C
And repeated actions, habits and routines.
So I get up every day at 7 am is a habit or routine so you use the present simple.
Whereas we use the present continuous for temporary actions.
She is sleeping, she will wake up.
So if you say, I am living in London, it's temporary, you won't live there forever.
Whereas if you say I live in London.
This is more of a general fact and not temporary.
