South Indian chutney is a vibrant and flavorful condiment that beautifully complements dishes like idli and dosa. Made with a blend of aromatic spices and fresh ingredients, this chutney brings a burst of tangy, spicy, and savory notes to your palate. The key ingredients include:

Jeera (Cumin Seeds): Half teaspoon
Garlic: 5 cloves
Onion (big): 1, chopped
Kashmiri Chillies: 8, for the base; 3 for tempering
Tomato (big): 1, chopped
Coconut Oil: For sautéing
Mustard Seeds: Half teaspoon
Urad Dal (Black Gram Lentils): Half tablespoon
Curry Leaves: 3 sprigs
Salt: To taste
Coriander Leaves (Dania Patha): For garnish
To prepare, sauté cumin seeds, garlic, onions, Kashmiri chillies, and tomatoes in coconut oil until softened and aromatic. Blend this mixture into a smooth paste. For the tempering, heat coconut oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, remaining Kashmiri chillies, and curry leaves until they splutter, then pour this over the blended chutney. Adjust salt to taste and garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve alongside idli or dosa for an authentic South Indian dining experience.
