A lot of beginners might be using the barbell in their training for the wrong reasons. Are you using it because you feel you need to because it’s ‘just what you do’? Are you using it because you see the experienced people at your gym using it? Or because you just have a feeling that somehow it is superior to everything else, machines, bodyweight and dumbbells included?
The barbell can start to take on nearly mythical properties when in reality it is what it is: a straight piece of metal that you can load more metal on to the sides of. It’s not inherently better or worse than any of the other above mentioned training modalities and should be used if it suits your anatomy and goals. There are plenty of good reasons to use it and plenty of good reasons not to.

and how all of these can be made more comfortable and, at least for many beginners, more accessible and appropriate for their current training.
