When we lunge or when we slide into the ball, two things can happen. We lose all the power that we coiled up at the top of the backswing. Instead of coiling and uncoiling, we slide or worse, we lunge at the ball and instead of all the power being transferred to the end of the golf club it’s lost in this weak transition. The second thing that happens is we create an inconsistent bottom for our golf swing. We started here but when we slide or lunge, it may end up here at one point or here or here or here. We start compensating by dropping our hands with an early cast, blah, blah, blah, we end up having a rough round with poor ball striking.
Super simple drill to help us rotate through the ball. Address the ball with your feet close together. Slide your front foot back and pop it up one it’s toe.
In order to complete your swing in balance, you have no choice but to rotate. It forces you to stay over and a little behind the ball at impact.
If you try and slide or lunge at the ball, you’re going to come out of your swing and have to catch yourself.
Remember, to uncoil once you coil to create consistency and power.
