How a second lumbar fusion is done entirely depends on the first fusion. If the second surgery is a revision of a failed disc, I may be able to replace the fusion and use an artificial disc in its place. If it’s to fuse another disc, I may opt to place an artificial disc above or below the fused disc in that case.
