The Straight Leg Raise (SLR) test helps check if the hamstring muscle is shortened or tight by stretching it on both ends (hip flexion knee extension).
This test is also known as the Laseagues test.
It's often used to check the sciatic nerve length and identify impairment in disc pathology or nerve root irritation.[1,2]
How to perform this test?🤷♂️
Lift the patient's leg while keeping the knee fully extended.
You should continue to lift it by flexing at the hip until the patient experiences pain or tightness in the back or back of the leg.
Not being able to lift the leg above 70 degrees may indicate tightness in the hamstring.
📌 It is important to compare both legs and see if there are any differences in the hip angle or if pain appears during the leg raise.
