With this, IOA started a hunt for a new flag bearer and selected Sindhu as the flag bearer for the inaugural program.
Along with Sindhu, the names of Tokyo Olympic winners Mirabai Chanu and Lovely Borgohain were also discussed, IOA said. But with the experience and achievements of Sindhu, got this honor. This is not the first time that Sindhu has carried the Indian flag in the Commonwealth Games. In 2018, Sindhu also carried the flag in the 21st Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia.
The Indian team consisting of 215 athletes and 110 staff has already reached the Commonwealth Games Village to participate in the Commonwealth Games. India participated in 16 sports in these competitions. The Indian team, which finished third with 66 medals on Gold Coast, hopes to increase the number of medals this time. Our best performance in these sports was in New Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010. In 2010, India stood second with 101 medals. It is determined to repeat that performance this time too.
