I apologize that I didn't tell the person recording to flip their phone to wide screen, so this might be hard to see well. I caught this big bobcat in a cable restraint set for coyote. Cable restraints are simply snares that don't kill, the lock that is used is a relaxing one, so the animal is just held there but the lock doesn't tighten down. I did not have a bobcat harvest tag this season so I had no choice but to release him. I used a piece of rebar (the driver) as a chew toy to distract the cat, then cut the 1x19 cable with a pair of cable cutters. VERY IMPORTANT when releasing bobcats with a catch pole, that you MUST put the loop not only over their head, but have one front leg through the loop so that no pressure is being put on the catch's airway. By putting a leg through the loop, the animal is pinned down securely but can still breathe freely. You can see the cat's tail twitching the whole time during the video, meaning he is not unconscious or being harmed in any way, but simply chewing on the driver as a distraction while I went to work. I've had many questions about how to release bobcats from both footholds and cable restraints so I hope this video helps you for the situation in the future.
