HOW MOUTH TAPING WORKS
When you breathe through your mouth while asleep, you tend to take in more air than you need. This over-breathing can lead to a reduction in CO2 levels in the body, which can in turn disrupt sleep and cause various health problems. However, while mouth breathing during sleep can sometimes be a sign of serious breathing problems, often it’s a simple issue that can be corrected naturally at home.
Mouth taping was introduced by Ukrainian medical doctor, Konstantin Buteyko, in the 1950s and involves placing a strip of medical tape in front of your lips to encourage nasal breathing. Nasal breathing is the ideal way to breathe – it’s best for your long-term health, your breathing, and your sleep. The key is to practice it correctly or to try an alternative method that you can sleep comfortably with all night. We’ll show you some options in this video.
