When a player is setting an out-of-system ball, where should the outside hitter set up? Coach Tod Mattox trains his hitters to “get big” around 15 to 17 feet off the net, but no further. If the hitter retreats too far from the net, it will be hard to get to a set that’s 5 feet off the net.

He also instructs his hitters to remain calm and quiet with their feet while they’re waiting for the set. Watch the video to learn more!
